The Horns in Games of Throne

What's the point of introducing the horns into A Song of Ice and Fire story? The first horn we get introduced to via character plot is the Horn of Winter aka Joramun's Horn.  It is first referenced in A Clash of Kings- Jon III where Jeor Mormont name drops Joramun,  legendary King Beyond The Wall, who blew the Horn of Winter and "woke up giants from the earth." The next time the Horn is referenced is in A Storm of Swords - Jon VI. Ygritte gives Jon Snow the 411 on Mance Rayder's mission of finding the Horn of Winter and where he's been looking for it. At this point it becomes apparent that Mance, and the Free Folk for that matter, are of the opinion that the Horn of Winter can tear down The Wall. Essentially GRRM's idea for the Horn of Winter canon is based on the Walls of Jericho from the Book of Joshua. In that, the Israelites circled the town for 6 days and then on the 7th they blew their horns and the walls came crumbling down. Fast forward to A Sto...

House Hightower Hiding in Plain Sight

In A Song of Ice and Fire, House Hightower sits as one of the most powerful houses of Westeros yet they fly under the radar at the same time. We'll explore their history and current involvement in Westeros and hopefully come to some sort of destination on what they're up to.     House Hightower is an ancient family believed to be descendants of the First Men who settled in from Westeros. Their hometown is Oldtown which is known as the richest city of Westeros due to it being a port town for Westeros. Records from First Men runes and the Citadel indicate that Oldtown is the oldest men settlement in Westeros. From the same records, it appears that the first inhabitants lived among the Children of the Forest. Based on being a wealthy port of Westeros, it was subject to invasions to all sorts of sketchy folks from pirates to rival territories. House Hightower were relatively untouched as they lived within an ancient fortress made of oily bla...

Who Wrote the Pink Letter?

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan (book wise), then you without a doubt have come across the debate of the Pink letter. To recap it: Jon Snow was voted in as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch after some trifling maneuvering from Samwell Tarley. He’s got Stannis wanting to legitimize him as a Stark so he’d join his crusade and make taking the North easier. He’s got the Wildlings in the gates with a majority of his “brothers” finding their inner prejudices hating it. He’s got a crazy red priestess trying to get her some king’s blood and a human roast going for R’hllor in Melisandre. He’s got his home, Winterfell, being controlled/occupied by the Boltons Basically he’s got 99 problems and b*tch ain’t one- mostly cause his dumb ass got Ygritte killed. RIP and moment of silence for Ygritte...sorry back from the tangent...Jon Snow is overwhelmed with everything in his current situation and along comes this letter to let him know “BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!”. So the letter itself reads: “ Your fa...

Gendry's End Game

Gendry, bastard son of King Robert Baratheon, has had quite the journey.  We first learn of him when Ned stumbles upon what Jon Arryn was up to before his untimely death- figuring out Robert's blond hair green eyed children aren't really his. Tracing Jon Arryn's steps, Ned finds Gendry working for Tobho Mott as an apprentice. Gendry turns out was placed there by a "stout brown bearded man with a hooded face" who paid twice the amount it normally costs to be an apprentice.  It's been speculated that Mr. Stout hooded Face is none other than the spider himself, Varys. Anyone else would have been this is some sketchy stuff but not Tobho Mott as he was all about the milk money so he could care less.  "The boy is my apprentice. Who he was before he came to me, that's none of my concern." -Tobho Mott (Game of Thrones, Eddard VI)          Gendry has some mad skills and makes this impressive helmet that's shaped like ...

Who's Going to be Azor Ahai Reborn?

Azor Ahai (aka The prince that was promised) is from an ancient prophecy that tells of coming of a hero that will save the world from darkness. This "prince" is said to have a song of ice and fire- which is the title of the book series. "When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone."  — Melisandre to Jon Snow   (A Dance with Dragons, Jon X)      I think within the GOT community it seems pretty clear that Azor Ahai is  more than likely going to be one of two people:  Jon "Knows Nothing" Snow, Lord Snow, The Bastard of Winterfell, The Snow of Winterfell, Ser Alliser's Bane, The crow-come-over, Lord Crow, The Black Bastard of the Wall,  The 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Queen Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and ...
